IT specialist Muziwendoda Kunene — one of the men allegedly behind the hoax email saga — was shot in Pretoria on Wednesday. The incident comes after Kunene claimed that senior members of the African National Congress were plotting to assassinate him. The party dismissed his claims as a ”conjured-up story”.

Former spy boss Billy Masetlha had no political ambitions and would have retired as National Intelligence Agency director general had he not been fired, the Hatfield Community Court heard on Friday. He is charged with allegedly withholding information from Inspector General of Intelligence Zolile Ngcakani.

The inspector general of intelligence will take the witness stand in the Hatfield Community Court on Friday after former spy boss Billy Masetlha’s defence was granted an application to recall witnesses. Zolile Ngcakani is to be asked whether he received a report that Masetlha said he sent to him on September 30 2005.
There is a probability that the hoax emails allegedly fabricated by former spy boss Billy Masetlha and his two co-accused were created by an amateur, the Pretoria Commercial Crimes Court heard on Tuesday. Masetlha and his co-accused are facing charges of fraud amounting to R152 000.

The last day of testimony in the case of former spy boss Billy Masetlha in Pretoria on Friday ended with the defence applying to recall some of the witnesses who have already testified. Masetlha is charged with withholding information from Inspector General of Intelligence Zolile Ngcakani.

Magistrate Dreyer van der Merwe on Tuesday denied an application from former spy boss Billy Masetlha’s defence team for his recusal from the case at the Hatfield Community Court in Pretoria. ”The facts presented by the defence are not substantiated to merit a recusal,” the magistrate said after deliberating over the application for about two hours.

Former National Intelligence Agency director general Billy Masetlha and his two co-accused, software specialist Muziwendoda Kunene and IT specialist Funokwakhe Madlala, had their fraud case postponed in the Pretoria Commercial Crimes Court on Tuesday. The case was postponed to October 1 for trial and plea.
