Murdoch concedes in the fight for Newsday

Rupert Murdoch has abandoned his -million attempt to buy Newsday in an about-turn likely to relieve campaigners pressing for diversity in United States media ownership. Murdoch’s News Corporation withdrew its bid for the Long Island daily because it was unwilling to match a -million offer from a cable television operator, Cablevision.

Marilyn Monroe sex film to be kept private

A 15-minute film of Marilyn Monroe engaging in oral sex with an unidentified man will be kept from public view by a New York businessman who has bought it for ,5-million, the broker of the deal said on Monday. Monroe is clothed and the man’s head remains out of the frame for the entire 15 minutes of the film.
