Wits own goal hands Ajax victory

An 85th-minute own goal by Wits defender Wilson Shendzelani gave Premier Soccer League log leaders Ajax Cape Town an invaluable 1-0 victory at a rain-swept Bidvest Stadium on Friday night. Shendzelani sunk to his knees and held his head between his arms at the final whistle .

Good fortune helps Wits top the log

Wits University moved to the top of the Premier Soccer League log following a bruising 1-0 victory over Moroka Swallows on Friday — also due to a stroke of apparent good fortune when referee Daniel Bennett turned down a concerted injury-time penalty appeal by the Birds.

Wits, Arrows play to 1-1 draw

Wits University played to a 1-1 draw against Golden Arrows in a Premier Soccer League match played at Bidvest Stadium on Sunday afternoon. There was no score at half-time. Wits failed to maintain their winning momentum after thrashing Bloemfontein Celtic 2-0 last week at the same venue.

SuperSport, Wits get the points

SuperSport United beat Moroka Swallows 2-1 in their Premier Soccer League game played at Germiston Stadium on Friday night, and Bidvest Wits beat Bloemfontein Celtic 2-0 in their match. Part of the game in Germiston was played in heavy rain and referee Robert Smith was forced to stop the match for 15 minutes.

SA to play Zambia in Cosafa Castle Cup final

A first half free kick from Teko Modise was enough to ensure victory for a makeshift South African side in the Saturday’s Cosafa Castle Cup semifinal against Botswana at Atteridgeville, near Pretoria. Modise netted in the 32nd minute to set up a final meeting with Zambia next month, at a venue to be decided.

Second straight win for Wits

Bidvest Wits fought off the constantly attacking Kaizer Chiefs to record a second great, early-season victory in the space of a week in a Castle Premiership clash at the Olympia Stadium on Friday night. Noah Chivuta slotted home from the penalty spot in the 65th minute to give the Clever Boys another memorable victory and to send them to the top of the log.
