Ramnaresh Sarwan stroked a fluent 102 and Shivnarine Chanderpaul added an unbeaten 86 to pilot the West Indies to a series-levelling six-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the second Test on Sunday. Sarwan and Chanderpaul added a record 157 for the fourth wicket to spur the home team to the victory target of 254 for four.
South Africa coach Mickey Arthur managed to find positives in his side’s shaky start against Ireland in a Cricket World Cup warm-up match. Arthur said South Africa’s 36-run win had no bearing on the tournament proper, which his side enter as the world’s top-ranked one-day team.

World Cup chief executive Chris Dehring told the nine venues hosting next year’s Caribbean tournament that they could be stripped of matches if their preparations are not up to scratch. The International Cricket Council (ICC) begins a tour of all the venues starting in Barbados next Wednesday, which will host the final.

An explosion outside a popular nightclub in Trinidad’s capital wounded at least 10 people on Friday, police said. It was not clear what caused the explosion, but it followed a series of bombings that have all occurred around the same time of the month. No one has claimed responsibility for the bombings.
Opener Boeta Dippenaar stroked an unbeaten 61 on Sunday as South Africa secured an historic 5-0 sweep of the West Indies with a seven-wicket win in the rain-shortened fifth and final one-day cricket international. The West Indies were restricted to 138 for seven after morning rain reduced the match to 20 overs per side.
With Brian Lara and three other stars back, there are high expectations for the West Indies against South Africa in the second Test starting on Friday at Queen’s Park Oval. Without the foursome, the West Indies surprised South Africa at Guyana by making the visitors bat to a draw.
