South Africa’s government admitted on Friday it was aware of the potential of anti-immigrant sentiment to explode into violence. ”Of course we were aware there was something brewing. It is one thing to know there is a social problem and another thing to know when that outburst will occur,” said Intelligence Minister Ronnie Kasrils.
The Italian ambassador to South Africa, Alessandro Cevese, was killed in a freak accident in Tom Burke, Limpopo police said on Saturday. Police spokesperson Superintendent Ronel Otto said Cevese was apparently part of a hunting party that was travelling in an open vehicle early on Saturday morning. The vehicle swerved to avoid an eland that crossed its path and overturned.

A 19-year-old was arrested for child neglect after three of her four children were found in a cage, Limpopo police said on Friday. Spokesperson Superintendent Ronel Otto said the woman, who is seven months pregnant, was arrested on Thursday in Zebediela outside Polokwane.
