United Nations staff strike in DRC

A strike by local workers in the world’s biggest United Nations peacekeeping force took hold on Friday, cutting off power and radio broadcasts from the mission headquarters in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). About 100 striking daily hire employees gathered on the second day of a protest over pay and conditions.

World powers urge caution over DRC election

United Nations powers on Wednesday warned rivals in the war-ravaged Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) not to sow unease among voters as they await results of the first multiparty election in 46 years. Politicians and the media should avoid "misrepresentation" of early counting, said the International Committee supporting the Transition in the DRC.
