SA rejects Mann’s coup-plot allegations

South Africa on Wednesday rejected ”with contempt” claims by jailed British mercenary Simon Mann that it backed his plot to overthrow the government of Equatorial Guinea. ”South Africa is thrown in just out of the blue … he says he had a nod from us. I would like to know in what sense he had a nod,” Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Aziz Pahad said.

Blatter lays down law for 2018 Cup

South America and Africa have no chance of hosting the 2018 Soccer World Cup. ”Of all five continents available to present, South America and Africa will not be allowed to,” Fifa president Sepp Blatter said on Sunday. ”If we hadn’t taken the decision to have a rotation policy in the first place, Africa would never had had the chance to host the World Cup, neither would South America.”

Spain forces treasure ship into port

A Spanish warship forced a United States treasure hunting vessel back into port at gunpoint on Tuesday as it tried to leave Gibraltar in the latest episode in a battle over what is claimed to be the world’s largest recovery of treasure from the sea. The Odyssey Explorer was trying to leave Gibraltar, where it had been effectively blockaded for three months.

Spain to scare African migrants with video

Spain will try to scare off potential African migrants with television advertisements showing a young man apparently lying dead on some rocks and a mother grieving for her disappeared son. The Spanish government advertisements, which also feature Senegalese singer Youssou N’Dour, started showing on Senegalese television on Wednesday.
