Town offers nativity scene without baby Jesus

Christ is missing from Christmas in this small town. The community’s holiday display has a manger with shepherds, a guiding star, camels and a palm tree, but no baby Jesus, Mary or Joseph. The parks superintendent said Jesus was left out because of concerns about the separation of church and state.

Church of England appoints senior gay clergyman

A gay clergyman who declined a bishop’s post after an outcry from Anglican conservatives has been appointed dean of a Church of England cathedral, the British government said on Monday. Prime Minister Tony Blair’s office said Queen Elizabeth II had approved Canon Jeffrey John as Dean of St Albans cathedral.
