US employers slashed 84 000 jobs in August and the jobless rate jumped to a five-year high of 6,1%, according to a government report.
SA’s jobless rate was at 23,1% of the labour force in the second quarter of 2008, from 23,5% in the first quarter, a labour report showed on Thursday.
