Two explosions ripped through Russia’s main natural gas-supply pipeline to Armenia and Georgia on Sunday, halting supplies at a time of freezing temperatures and sparking accusations of sabotage from Georgian President Mikhael Saakashvili. Officials said it could take up to four days to repair the damage.

More than 60 people were killed on Thursday, including about 50 militants, after gunmen launched attacks on Russian government installations in the southern city of Nalchik, the region’s top official said. Arsen Kanokov said the attacks were carried out by about 150 armed militants.
A new primary school built to replace that destroyed in the Beslan school hostage massacre last year has been robbed, with thieves stealing computers, printers and televisions worth around €5 000 ( 200), officials said on Monday.

The president of the southern Russian republic of North Ossestia promised on Wednesday that his government will step down amid criticism for its handling of the Beslan school hostage siege, an AFP correspondent said. More than 1 000 angry demonstrators gathered outside the Parliament building in the republic’s capital.
