Cricket Australia wants television coverage of the Ashes series to be as contemporary and entertaining as possible without damaging the integrity of players, an official said on Wednesday. The comments came a day after Australia leg-spinner Shane Warne was left visibly furious when he was asked a question about his personal life as he walked off the field.

South Africa’s ailing Minister of Health Manto Tshabalala-Msimang could be discharged from the Johannesburg Hospital soon, a spokesperson said on Wednesday. The Department of Health’s Bhungani Mzolo said they were told the minister’s stay in the Folateng Private Wing at the hospital could end soon.

United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice sought on Wednesday on a whistle-stop tour of the region to ensure North Asian powers were committed to a unified stance on United Nations sanctions following North Korea’s nuclear test. The last landmines and unexploded ordnance blocking Mozambique’s vital Sena railway line have been removed, thanks largely to about -million in United States aid, the US State Department said on Tuesday. The humanitarian mine action assistance launched in 2002 ”has saved lives, created jobs, encouraged more than -million in World Bank loans,” the department said.

Former Pakistan Cricket Board chairperson Shaharyar Khan has blamed poor education among players for Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif failing drugs tests. The JSE remained firm at midday on Wednesday, due mainly to strong commodities prices and the softer rand. Local investors were showing interest in retail stocks, a trader noted. By noon, the all share and all share industrial indices had added 0,32% and 0,25% respectively.
