England captain Michael Vaughan is out of the tri-series finals after failing to recover from the latest flare-up of his hamstring injury, team officials said on Thursday. Vaughan will fly home on Saturday for treatment, they said, adding the influential skipper was expected to be fit for next month’s World Cup.

Indian police may question West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels over his links with an Indian bookmaker to whom he allegedly passed confidential team information during a one-day series in India last month. Police in India’s central city of Nagpur say they have proof of a telephone conversation between Samuels and a bookmaker on the eve of the first one-day international against India.

Just a day after Hiddink, who took Australia to the World Cup last year, was accused of tax evasion, he then found little to cheer on the pitch as the Dutch turned on the style in this friendly international against his Russian side.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape has won by-elections in Hout Bay and Beaufort West, the party said on Thursday. In Wednesday’s vote it won 61,8% of the votes in Hout Bay, compared to the African National Congress’s 37%, said spokesperson Gareth van Onselen.

Malaysia is to introduce college courses in toilet management as part of a battle against the nation’s notoriously filthy public restrooms, a report said on Thursday.
