Jacques Kallis scored a century to guide South Africa to a one-day series win over West Indies on Sunday. South Africa won by seven wickets with eight balls to spare to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. Kallis struck 121 not out in South Africa’s total of 256 for three after West Indies, who won the toss, made 252 for seven from 50 overs.

A power shortage halted production in South Africa’s lucrative mining sector for a second day on Saturday, and mining company officials said they still did not know when they could resume operations. Power cuts described by President Thabo Mbeki’s government as a national emergency on Friday stopped production in the world’s biggest platinum and number one two gold producer.

At least 1 600 families have refused to abandon their flooded homes in the central Sofala province district of Machanga. Radio Mozambique said that authorities in the district — which is located near the Save River — had reported that the affected families were refusing to be relocated to higher ground.

Sudan summoned the top United States diplomat in Khartoum saying he had interfered in the internal affairs of the country and rejected US criticism of the appointment of Musa Hilal to a central government post. US Charge D’Affaires Alberto Fernandez told Reuters that Khartoum’s lack of implementation of internal peace accords had created an environment of distrust.

Former president Suharto, hailed as the father of development by some Indonesians during his 32 years in power and accused of corruption and rights abuses by others, died on Sunday after a long illness. He was 86. He died in hospital after lapsing into a coma and suffering multiple organ failure.
