Policemen linked to ATM bombers

Two Soweto police constables accused of supplying a gang of ATM bombers with ammunition appeared in the Protea magistrate’s court on Monday, Crime Line said.

Crime Line head Yusuf Abramjee said the case against Constables Authority Gamede and Vincent Hlubi was postponed until August 3. They remain in custody.

The policemen, both stationed at the Moroka police station, allegedly supplied the gang with ammunition.

“The prosecutor decided today [Monday] that the constables had to be charged with murder, robbery and defeating the ends of justice,” Abramjee said.

They were arrested on Saturday, hours after police arrested a gang member who allegedly shot dead police reservist Busisiwe Mehlwana during an ATM bombing in Pimville, Soweto, two weeks ago. — Sapa
