Durban theatre pick: May 6 2011

Multi award-winning Durban theatre company KickstArt this week unveil their idiosyncratic production of hot Broadway hit God of Carnage.

Acclaimed playwright, novelist and screenwriter Yasmina Reza brings her razored wit and astute understanding of human behaviour to to this withering parable of modern life and its delusions of civilisatios. Two married couples meet up to sort out a playground fight in polite, bourgeois fashion. The son of one couple has broken two of the teeth of the son of another and, during the riveting encounter, the diplomatic niceties observed early on soon give way to more primal tempers seething below the surface. The God of Carnage features a brilliant local in the form of Clare Mortimer, Jailoshini Naidoo, Tim Wells and Iain Robinson and is directed by Greg King with lighting design by Tina le Roux.

Seabrooke Theatre (recently refurbished and redesigned), Durban High School. May 10 – 29. Performances take place at 7.30pm Tuesdays to Saturdays and at 3pm on Sundays. Tickets are R100 from Computicket. Visit www.kickstart-theatre.co.za
