Legitimised by Banksy, popularised by Puma, replaced by Twitter as the voice of protest on the street, urban art is no longer underground.
London’s Tate Modern staged its first major public museum display of street art in 2008 and Moca in Los Angeles recently announced record attendance for urban art show Art in the Streets.
Now 34 FineArt contributes to the gentrification of the genre with a blockbuster group show of local and international urban contemporary art. Ironically titled Outside, it brings together some of urban art’s hippest superstars including the United Kingdom’s Banksy, AME72 and Nick Walker, France’s Blek le Rat and the United States’ Shepard Fairey.
They are joined by a local crew that ranges from old-school graffiti legend Falko to a new generation of multimedia practitioners including Faith47, Motel7, Black Koki and Jop Kunneke.
