Several Cape Town galleries are taking advantage of the winter lull to investigate and showcase the work of young and emerging artists.
? |O|O|M|P|H| at Blank Projects aims to put a bit of ‘oomph” into the old debate on the relationships between art, the artist, art institutions and you, the viewer. Curator Tamzyn Varney has selected works by some of the more edgy local young guns, many of whom are recent graduates. Expect to see energetic, challenging works in a range of media by Andrea Burger, Stuart Cairns, Karin Groenewald, Sigourney Smuts and many more. Fresh at Everard Read takes a more commercial approach by creating an open platform for a selection of young professionals working predominantly in paint. It’s an eclectic mix of landscapes, urban and township scenes, semi-abstract and figurative works.
Until July 11 and 13 respectively. Blank Projects, 113-115 Sir Lowry Road, Woodstock. Everard Read, 3 Portswood Road, V&A Waterfront.
