Transnet will give all bargaining unit employees an across-the-board above-inflation increase on pensionable earnings, the parastatal said on Monday.
The increase would apply from April 1.
This would in effect increase the company’s total wage bill by more than R1 billion or 11%.
The United Transport and Allied Trade Union accepted a revised wage deal of 11% and returned to work on Monday.
However, the South African Transport and Allied Workers’ Union (Satawu) rejected the revised offer.
Satawu negotiator Jane Barrett said if the wage increase was implemented it would be a “unilateral” move.
“They haven’t communicated any thing but it makes no difference to us and the strike is still continuing,” Barrett said.
The strike against Transnet was going into its third week. –Sapa
