Three people linked to arms cache discoveries in Boksburg and Katlehong appeared in separate courts on Monday, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said on Monday.
Leon Kruger (70) and police captain Juan Cornelius van Dyk (38) appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, NPA spokesperson Mthunzi Mhaga said.
Their case was postponed to January 27 for bail application and further investigation.
Kruger owned a house in Steyn Sreet, Boksburg where a large arms cache was found by police on Thursday. Eight unlicensed firearms and 13 941 rounds of ammunition were seized in the operation.
In the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, a man linked to another arms cache appeared on Monday.
Mxolisi Vincent Stoff (31) appeared briefly and had his case postponed to January 20 for bail application, police spokesperson Colonel Vish Naidoo said.
Stoff is the owner of a house in Katlehong on the East Rand, where another large arms cache was found last Tuesday. It included rocket launchers, explosives, AK-47s, limpet mines and ammunition.
Stoff’s mother Rosetta Stoff appeared in the same court last week.
The mother and son will appear alongside each other on Thursday.
Another man arrested in a third arms seizure case in Pretoria was expected to appear in the city’s magistrate’s court on Monday but Mhaga did not immediately have those details.
“The NPA, noting the magnitude of the arms caches, will channel all its resources in ensuring successful prosecutions,” Mhaga said. — Sapa
