NIGERIAN SOCCER CAMP ATTACK TO BE PROBED

NIGERIAN President Olusegun Obasanjo has ordered a police investigation into an attack by robbers on the training camp of Nigeria’s national womens’ team. One person was killed and two seriously injured when robbers attacked the Ota training camp of reigning African champions ‘The Falcons’ near the economic capital Lagos on Sunday night as the team prepared for the Sydney Olympics. Obasanjo on Tuesday asked the Inspector-General of police, Musiliu Smith, to investigate the attack, the National Concord newspaper reported. The newspaper said that the president was “shocked and embarrassed” by the incident and had directed that the robbers be found and punished. A driver attached to the farm was killed during the raid and his jeep stolen. Two people, including the team captain Prisca Emeafu, were injured during the attack. The Falcons have already been drawn against world champions USA, China and Norway in a group for the Sydney Olympics in September.
