SPOORNET is facing a strike because of a deadlock in this years wage negotiations, which trade unions say will amount to an actual reduction in wages, Sake Beeld reports. The three trade unions, Utata, Satawu and Salstaff, will hold meetings for their Spoornet members in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban this week. Workers will be informed about the deadlock, and preparations for a strike will be started, the newspaper said. But the three trade unions indicated to Spoornet’s representatives on Friday they were still prepared to negotiate. The dispute is now threatening to lead to a strike just a few weeks before Public Enterprises Minister Jeff Radebe announces restructuring plans for Spoornet in which thousands of workers may lose their jobs.
