THURSDAY, 11.00AM:
A BACKLOG of unplayed matches could delay the progress of second-round matches at Wimbledon in London, after rain held up play on Wednesday.
The bad weather delayed South African Wayne Ferreira’s scheduled singles match against Rudolphe Gilbert of France. Doubles matches were also held up. South Africans waiting to take the court include Ros Nideffer, Robbie Koenig, Pietie Norval, Ellis Ferreira, David Adams, and Marius Barnard.
Singles second-round matches scheduled for Thursday look likely to be postponed as well. Marcos Ondruska is up against Todd Woodbridge of Australia, Neville Godwin will face Alex O’Brien, and Joanette Kruger will face tournament seventh-seed Anke Huber of Germany.
