Some 7-million Chinese students graduated from university in 2013
It is the greatest dream by the Chinese people since modern times.
There are three major phases for the realisation of this dream: China will complete the building of a moderately prosperous society pillared by economic, political, cultural, social and ecological progress by 2020, the centenary of the Communist Party of China; and it will build a modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced and harmonious by 2049, the centenary of the new China.
Once the two centenary goals are achieved, China will work to realise the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
The Chinese dream is inherent in 5 000 years of history and culture of the Chinese civilisation.
Since ancient times, the Chinese cherished the idea of perseverance, benevolence and the love for all.
The dream is deeply rooted in the heart and soul of every Chinese person.
It is not only the ideal of the nation, but it also reflects the glorious tradition of the Chinese people’s unwavering fight for advancement and development.
It can only be achieved by the people and is aimed to bring benefits, wellbeing, hope, confidence and power to all.
It reflects the call of the people and will lead to a future where everyone enjoys equal rights of participation, development, and social fairness and justice.
Realising the Chinese dream
To realise the Chinese dream, China is to follow the Chinese path, which is socialism with Chinese characteristics.
This is a path suitable to China’s national conditions, a path deeply rooted in China’s history and realities.
China is to foster the Chinese spirit with patriotism at its core, and the spirit of the times with reform and innovation as the essence.
This is what unites the whole nation for a stronger and better China. China must draw synergy of the Chinese strength.
This strength comes from the unity of Chinese people from all ethnic groups.
As long as all Chinese people stand united and work hand in hand for this common dream, there will be enough strength and every Chinese person will have a better opportunity to realise their individual dreams.
Benefits to the world
The Chinese dream is closely linked with world development.
Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi said in his article, Innovations in China’s Diplomatic Theory and Practice Under New Conditions, that the “Chinese dream requires a peaceful and stable international and neighboring environment, and China is committed to realising the dream through peaceful development.
“Since the Chinese dream is closely linked with the dreams of other peoples around the world, China is committed to helping other countries, developing countries and neighboring countries in particular, with their development while achieving development of its own. And China hopes to [a] see win-win cooperation and common development with the rest of the world.”
The Chinese dream is a dream for peace. The Communist Party of China has chosen to follow a peaceful path to development and this is a strategic decision based on modern times and China’s fundamental interests.
The Chinese people are determined to following this peaceful path of development.
The dream committed development and it is not set to defeat, surpass or replace anyone; rather it is a dream to benefit the Chinese people and promote the common development of the world.
With more than 1.3-billion population, China’s own development will greatly drive the development of other countries and regions and advance the common development of the human society.
The New York Times columnist, Thomas L. Friedman, said in his article that people “need to go to China to see the future”.
Sharing dreams
The Chinese people and the African people share similar historical experiences and the need for development.
African people cherish dreams, such as African rejuvenation and the idea of a United States of Africa.
Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, said that as the Chinese nation needs a Chinese dream, the African continent also needs an African dream, and every African country needs its own dream.
The development of China and Africa will benefit each other and the world.
The Washington Post published an article titled “Struggling Chadians Dream of a Better Life — in China”, in which the writer commented that “the American dream is something quaint and unrealistic, while a new kind of Chinese dream, more pragmatic and attainable, seems ascendant”.
The Chinese dream goes hand in hand with the African and South African dream, and together will lead to a better future.
There is every reason to believe that people from China and the African continent will join hands in realising their dreams and share the benefits.
