Two Boland rugby players appeared in the Rawsonville Circuit Court on Tuesday charged with killing a Rawsonville player earlier in the year.
A court official said the matter was transferred to Worcester where the pair would appear again on November 21.
Ben Zimri, eighth man of the Delicious Club, and centre Wayne Matthee, were again released on a warning. Zimri faces two additional charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
Riaan Loots of the Rawsonville Rugby Club was left brain dead after a brawl during a rugby match at Ceres in June.
An internal inquiry by the Boland Rugby Union into the incident is, meanwhile, continuing.
It was expected to reach finality on Saturday at the next sitting of a board of inquiry, said attorney Chris Faure, who acts for the Boland Rugby Union in the matter.
”The players charged with the crime will then give evidence,” said Faure.
”We hope to conclude on Saturday after five weeks of gathering evidence. The two are charged in terms of the union’s constitution — with assault and unsportsmanlike behaviour.”
Faure said the two could face a life-time ban from the union or a lengthy suspension if found guilty.
Loots was allegedly felled with a stiff-arm tackle to the throat, and kicked in the head as he lay on the ground during the rugby match.
The incident sent shock waves through the rugby fraternity. — Sapa
