Durban Premier Soccer League (PSL) club Amazulu have been fined R125 000 by the league’s disciplinary committee after arriving at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria for their recent game against Mamelodi Sundowns with socks that clashed with those of the home-based champions.
But a statement from PSL general manager Andrew Dipela on Tuesday revealed that Amazulu’s indiscretion, which caused a 20-minute delay to the kick-off, had been considerably shortened — with only R25 000 required to be paid immediately and the remaining R100 000 forming no more than a 12-month suspended sentence.
Amazulu, who pleaded guilty at the disciplinary hearing, were further ordered to pay the costs of two sittings, which amounted to approximately R17 000.
But the club, who barely escaped relegation last season, will probably view the exercise as well worth it after beating Sundowns to provide the first major shock of the PSL programme. — Sapa
