Police were on Monday probing stone-throwing incidents on the R59 road near Meyerton on the Vaal Rand, spokeswoman Superintendent Nthabiseng Mazibuko said.
She said a docket of malicious damage to property had been opened at Johannesburg’s Kliprivier police station.
”We are looking at the incident.”
Mazibuko said individuals wearing reflective jackets threw stones at vehicles driving past a bridge across the road near Meyerton on Sunday.
The motive for the attacks were not clear.
”We have never had such an incident before. We think robbery could be the motive for this. To motorists, please don’t stop,” said Mazibuko.
Three cars — a Toyota Venture, a Volvo and a BMW — were damaged by stones, said Meyerton’s metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Johannes Ntsane.
He said three of the culprits were boys.
”We think these were children who were just being naughty, you know how kids are. They were just being children,” Ntsane said. – Sapa
