ANGOLAN REBELS KILL 24

AT least 24 people, including an Angolan general, died in a nine-hour battle on Sunday between army forces and rebels in Kwanza-Norte province, Roman Catholic radio reported on Wednesday. The Angolan Armed Forces confirmed the death of Brigadier Raul Antonio, a provincial operational commander known as ”Recordacao,” on Wednesday, but did not provide details on other casualties. Radio Ecclesia reported that at least four soldiers, 18 rebels, and one civilian were killed in the battle at Samba-Caju. During the battle, the army seized some rebels’ weapons and captured five of the members of UNITA – AFP
