ELANA MEYER will use tomorrow’s Old Mutual ASA international half marathon challenge in Cape Town to sharpen up for April’s Boston Marathon.
The challenge is part of the Cape Town marathon and half marathon which features teams of two men and two women from Ethiopia, Kenya, Namibia and Zimbabwe as well as the South African team and several provincial teams.
Meyer will be aiming for Liz McColgan’s world best time of 67:11 and should she match that mark she will be R150 000 richer. The same prize is on offer to the men for a world best but nobody in the field seems capable of doing so.
Xolile Yawa and Ezael Thlobo represent South Africa and Nicole Fuller partners Elana Meyer in the women’s section of the event. The best of the visitors appears to be Ethiopian Badilu Kibret who came 13th at last year’s world half-marathon championships and has a best time of 61:40.
None of the visiting women are in the same league as Meyer and she should have an untroubled run to the tape.
