Underneath the baggy pants and flowing jersey lurks a slick operator. Van Loggerenberg runs an 85-person outfit 24-hours a day. He has no romantic notions concerning music and journalism: the music is “diverse and multicultural”, and journalism, until the station has formed its editorial policy, involves getting permission from the Sunday Times, the Eastern Province Herald and the Daily Dispatch to rehash their reports or read them straight off the page.
RMR has the full backing of the university authorities and is popular among students and local businesses, Van Loggerenberg says.
