THE KwaZulu-Natal African National Congress Wednesday called on provincial attorney-general Tim McNally to resign immediately after he dropped charges against six men accused of murdering Princess Nonhlanhla Zulu at the Zulu royal palace in April last year.
On Tuesday McNally said he would drop the charges against the six as three state witnesses in the case had been murdered and the remainder cannot be traced. ANC representative Dumisani Makhaye described McNally’s decision as ”shocking and disgusting”.
”The ANC calls upon law abiding people of KwaZulu-Natal and the loyal subjects of his majesty the king to demand the immediate resignation of Tim McNally. He has failed the people of the province,” the ANC said in a statement.
Makhaye said a definite pattern of clearing criminals through the courts or simply not prosecuting them was emerging in KwaZulu-Natal. ”Indeed, the office of the attorney-general has become the mother of all obstacles in the fight against crime and violence in KwaZulu-Natal.”
The princess and other women of the royal family were attacked by a group of unknown people at the Mbelebeleni royal residence of Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini on April 25 1996.
