MONDAY, 10.00AM:
CROWD-pleasers Kaizer Chiefs drew 1-1 with Qwa Qwa Stars in the crowded Northern Free State Rugby Stadium in Welkom on Sunday, in their Castle Premier League match.
Amakhosi had a couple of near-misses in the first half, thanks to the lacklustre performance of striker Mark Williams. When Williams did get a shot into the net in the 25th minute, the referee disqualified it. Half-time saw both sides sitting on zero, but Amakhosi took the lead in the 60th minute, when Thabang Lebese scored behind an unwary Stars goalkeeper, Mandla Sibiya.
Stars’ substitute Meshack Tsotetsi equalised the score soon afterwards, charging a low ball past Chiefs keeper Brian Baloyi.
Outside Johannesburg, Orlando Pirates also drew 1-1 with Supersport United at FNB Stadium on Sunday, after a dramatic last minute goal by Pirates substitute Andries Sebola. Ronald Lawrence took the lead for United in the 27th minute, and United defence kept the Pirates occupied. Sebola’s last-minute score has kept Pirates’ hopes alive of overtaking Kaizer Chiefs into the second spot on the league log.
