Namibia joins Cosafa log leaders

THURSDAY, 1.00PM:

ZAMBIA, Mozambique and Namibia all share the points at the top of the table in the Cosafa Cup soccer tournament after their opening matches. Zambia, who were pre-tournament favourites were held to a 2-2 draw by Tanzania at the weekend.

Namibia, who are a suprise at the tournament, boast a record of a win and a draw. They beat Zimbabwe 2-1 in the knockout competition in Windhoek and played a draw against Tanzania. They also beat Malawi 4-1 in the League competition in Windhoek. “The games we’ve played in the Cosafa Cup have proven to be the right kind of preparation for our other commitments,” said the Namibian Football Association president Ims Namaseb.

There are four matches left in the tournament with all three leaders playing a match at home and then one away. Mozambique have scored nine gaols in the tournament — four in the knoukout round and five in the round-robin competition.
