Downs get R7m sponsorship

MAMELODI Sundowns on Thursday recieved a massive sponsorship boost from Reckitt & Colman Pharmaceuticals to the tune of R7-million for the next 24 months.

Accepting the sponsorship, Sundowns chairman Abe Krok said soccer in South Africa has become a big business. “Sundowns have worked hard to become one of the country’s top clubs and this partnership with Reckitt & Colman is a significant step for both parties,” he said.

Sundown’s managing director Natasha Tsichlas said: “At Sundowns we are always on the lookout for talent and this money will help us purchase new players if and when we feel we need to strenghthen the sqaud.”

She said some of the money will be uses to pay players incentives for winning matches.

BIKERS TO SWITZERLAND SOUTH AFRICA will send a team of 31 riders to the world mountain bike championships in Switzerland from September 10-21.

SPORTS TRUST OFFER SPORTS Trust executive director Bruce Fordyce has called on individuals, sports bodies, sports codes and other organisations needing funding for sports development to to put forward their proposals. He said the funding will be allocated before the end of the month. He said nearly R10-million has been allocated to projects already. “No project is too insignificant to consider,” said Fordyce.
