Vodacom R5m for Olympics

NATIONAL Olympic Commitee of South Africa received a massive sponsorship boost from cellular phone company Vodacom on Tuesday. The company handed over a R5 million cheque – the first major boost in the build up to the Sydney 2000 Olympic games.

The cellular company is one of 12 main sponsors who will pay R5 million each amounting to R60 million. “Our target for Sydney is to take a team representing all Nocsa’s 28 Olympic sports and to win as many medals as possible,” said Nocsa president Sam Ramsamy. He said Nocsa had embarked on the biggest sports preparation programme in the history of South Africa. he said Nocsa has support from the private sector and from government.
