TUESDAY, 5.30PM:
THIRTY-FIVE farms have been made available for South African and Mozambican commercial farmers in Mozambique, the SA Chamber of Agricultural Development in Africa (Sacada) revealed on Tuesday.
Sacada president Dries Bruwer said: “These developments are the culmination of complex talks over the past two years to find ways in which South African agricultural expertise can be used to promote commercial farming in Mozambique.”
The land has been awarded under concession for 50 years to SDM, a Mozambican development company jointly run by Sacada and the Mozambican government.
A R50 000 one-off payment will be made to all the farmers — 14 resident South Africans, 11 South Africans who are moving to Mozambique soon, and 10 Mozambican farmers.
