‘Zulu’ may open at Gabba

THURSDAY, 12.30PM:

LANCE KLUSENER may face the first ball in Friday’s one-day match against New Zealand in Brisbane after Adam Bacher’s poor performance recently as opening bat.

Klusener will probably open in place of Bacher, who will again be overlooked for the shortened game.

Captain Hansie Cronje has indicated that the changes might be made in order to give Jacques Kallis, Herschelle Gibbs and Darryl Cullinan a longer chance at batting, with Klusener and Kirsten going in up front.

Meanwhile, former SA Test player Barry Richards has stepped in for off-spinner Pat Symcox, saying that he should be batted at number three or four. Richards said that Symcox could provide SA with the drive to propel their innings if he were played higher up in the order.

The teams:

SA: (possible) G.Kirsten, L.Klusener, H.Gibbs, J.Kallis, H.Cronje (captain), J.Rhodes, S.Pollock, P.Symcox, B.McMillan, D.Richardson, A.Donald.

NZ: (from) S.Fleming(c), N.Astle, C.Cairns, C.Drumm, C.Harris, M.Horne, C.McMillan, D.Nash, S.O’Connor, A.Parore, C.Spearman, D.Vettori, B.Young.
