Orange Farm child-killer suspect held

Peter Mabena

A middle-aged man who is suspected of being the Orange Farm serial killer has been apprehended by a group of pupils from the Nomini Primary School.

The man was seen walking down the street towards the bushes with three children from the school on January 30. The principal became suspicious and ordered other pupils to follow him. When he realised he was being followed, the man ran away.

The children gave chase, caught him and on their way back to school were joined by an angry armed mob determined to kill him.

The man was taken to the principal’s office for questioning. “He showed the three children a set of photos and told them of his club which he wanted them to join,” the principal said.

The community suspects the man, who may not be identified until he appears in court, might be the killer of 16 children who disappeared and were later found dead in Fine Town and Orange Farm in the past few months.

A police captain there refused to comment on whether the man had been taken to court this week, saying the matter had nothing to do with the press. “After we have done all the investigations, we will take him to court.”
