Nations Cup preliminary results

THE preliminary rounds of the African Nations Cup championships kicked off this weekend, and there were many surprises among the results.

Namibia beat Malawi 2-1 in Windhoek on Saturday, while Burundi beat Tanzania 1-0 in their match in Bujumbura. Jean-Marie Mbuyi scored the only goal.

Swaziland lost 2-1 to Madagascar in Mbabane on Sunday, and in Maseru Lesotho and Mauritius drew 1-1. In Tripoli Algeria beat Libya 2-0, with Abdelhafid Tasfaout scoring a brace.

Djibouti lost to Kenya 3-0 in Djibouti; for the Kenyans Maurice Sunguti scored two goals. In Kampala Uganda pulverised Rwanda by 5-0. Majid Musisi scored a hat-trick of goals in the first half.
