SECURITY officials assigned to the Non-Aligned Movement summit to be held in Durban at the weekend on Thursday warned people to be wary of bogus convention co-ordinators who are issuing false invitations and accreditation cards.
Police said on Thursday that people masquerading as co-ordinators are issuing fraudulent documents for entry to the International Convention Centre during the summit. People are being advised not to accept accreditation from people who are not conference organisers.
Accreditation cards are only obtainable only from conference officials and are not being posted.
Meanwhile, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Aziz Pahad said on Thursday that 53 heads of state, five deputy presidents or prime ministers and 102 foreign ministers have confirmed their attendance at the summit.
Pahad added that 93 of the 113 member states have formally registered, and that another 12 foreign ministers will attend as observers. Organisers expect between 2000 and 3000 delegates and 500 local and international journalists to attend.
Representatives of the G8 countries, including the United States, France, the United Kingdom and Russia have also been invited as guests.
