PAC to grab land if elected

OWN CORRESPONDENT, Johannesburg | Thursday 9.00pm.

PAN Africanist Congress of Azania official Jabulani “Ace” Khumalo said on Thursday that the PAC will seize white-owned farms without compensation to resettle black South Africans if it is elected to government next year.

Khumalo said in a statement that, when in power, it will limit the amount of land white farmers can own and will confiscate any unfarmed land owned by white farmers, without paying compensation.

PAC secretary-general Ngila Michael Muendane said, however, that Khumalo was expressing his personal view and that it does not reflect the party’s position.

Khumalo said the PAC will not be led by Zimbawean President Robert Mugabe’s example and wait for 20 years before implementing a land distribution programme. He added that the PAC will not bow to pressure from other countries, and will implement the program “at all costs”.

The PAC won slightly more than 1% of the vote in the 1994 general election.
