WINNIE MADIKIZELA-Mandela and former President PW Botha are among 200 people who have received written warning that the final report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission could “damage” them.
Deputy Defence Minister Ronnie Kasrils, President Nelson Mandela’s ex-wife and Botha were among those TRC notices about the potentially damaging findings, chief investigator Dumisa Nstebeza said. He sais an interim version of the report will be handed to Mandela at the end of October, summing up over two years of investigations into human rights violations committed during the struggle against apartheid.
Ntsebeza said those who have been served notices can respond and the TRC will consider any protests and possibly change the final report. Changes will be considered on the basis of written replies and without further hearings, he added.
