Cats may move to Riverside Sun

OWN CORRESPONDENT, Johannesburg | Tuesday 11.00am.

THE Golden Cats may end up using the Riverside Sun resort as their base for the Super-12 season next year, while taking advantage of training facilities in Vanderbijlpark, according to new coach Andre Markgraaff.

Soon to be called simply “the Cats”, the team feels the Riverside Sun has the right location to avoid the logistical difficulties they suffered in the last season, because of the distances between the unions from which Cats players are drawn — Gauteng, Griquas, Free State and Northern Free State.

Should Riverside not pan out, Bloemfontein is the next most likely home venue. Most of the squad’s 27 players are in any case likely to be drawn from the Free State.
