PROUDFOOT IN SCOTLAND

SOUTH African-born prop Matthew Proudfoot on Thursday was included in a 23-man Scotland squad for the international against Italy at Murrayfield on Saturday March 6. The remainder of the squad consists of the team and replacements for the Calcutta Cup clash with England last weekend. Scotland’s team management will watch the 27-year-old tighthead prop this weekend when he plays for Scottish Districts against Northampton. Scotland coach Jim Telfer is hoping Proudfoot can quickly return to the form he showed on Scotland’s tour of Australia last summer. Proudfoot would have to be convincing enough to displace Paul Burnell, who – according to Telfer – is in peak form.
