LIONS coach Laurie Mains surprised the rugby world by naming inexperienced Janus Labuschagne as captain of the team for the Vodacom Cup match against the Mpumalanga Pumas on Friday. World Cup hero Hennie le Roux was expected to take over the captaincy when an ear injury ruled skipper Balie Swart out. But Mains, a former All Black coach, opted for Labuschagne who captained the Rand Afrikaans University Under-21 team and the Stellaland High Schools team at Cravenweek from 1993 to 1996.
