‘PEOPLE SLAUGHTERED LIKE ANIMALS IN YUGOSLAVIA’

PRESIDENT Nelson Mandela said on Tuesday that the Kosovo crisis has resulted in innocent people being slaughtered like animals, and called on political leaders to seek a peaceful solution to the crisis. “We hope the world will reach a stage when it realises that the use of violence against any community is something that puts us next to animals,” said the Nobel peace laureate. “Why should human beings slaughter one another when they could sit down and resolve these problems?” he asked. Mandela, speaking to reporters after receiving the credentials of Belgrade’s new ambassador to South Africa, urged a quick diplomatic end to the crisis to save innocent lives.
