ETHIOPIA GETS SOME COLOUR

ETHIOPIA’S first colour television assembly plant became operational over the weekend and the country plans to export the sets to such neighbouring countries as Kenya, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. The new plant at Kaliti, 15 km on the eastern outskirts of Addis Ababa, was financed at a cost $600000 by an Ethiopian private family concern, Yitb Yed Ylssp Family Plc, with technical cooperation from the Turkish electronics and television company, Vestel. Yitbarek said at the inauguration of the plant Saturday that in its initial stage the plant will produce 100 TV sets with 14-in and 24-in screens daily, for the home market.
