HIGH-COMMISSIONER’S HOME IN BLAZE

THE thatch-roofed home of the British High Commissioner to South Africa in was gutted by a fire on Wednesday but no-one was injured in the blaze. Commissioner Maeve Fort was not in Cape Town when her home, in the upmarket suburb of Bishop’s Court, caught fire causing the roof to collapse. A commission spokesman said: “We’ve managed to save a piano and a few other things, but that’s about as much as we can [salvage] at this stage.” It is unclear how the fire started.
