NEWLANDS GETS NEW TURF

NEWLANDS was on Monday declared fit to host the Tri-NAtions match between South Africa and Australia next mont, provided the pitch is rested until then to let the new turf settle. The field’s condition was in doubt after new turf laid at the beginning of the year did not root properly and dislodged in scrums, lineouts and mauls. Experts examined the pitch before and after a Currie Cup match at the weekend and said the field could host the Tri-Nations clash on August 14 if it was not played on until then, the Western Province Rugby Football Union said.
