NIGERIA ASKS MOBIL TO STEP IN

THE state-run Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. (NNPC) has asked US operator Mobil to increase its production to make up for a shortfall from the Anglo-Dutch group Shell, the Daily Times said on Monday. “Mobil’s capacity is higher than production, so that is the capacity that will be used to meet the shortfall in the OPEC quota,” an unnamed industry source told the paper. The industry source told the paper that Shell’s production had fallen to 700000 barrels per day (bpd) from 800000 bpd. Mobil has a capacity to produce 700000 bpd but currently has a quota of 500000 bpd. It has been asked to increase output to 600000 bpd to ensure there is no shortfall in Nigeria’s export quota of 1,8-million bpd agreed with OPEC, the paper said. Mobil officials were not immediately available to comment on the report.
