SOUTH African Breweries said on Wednesday that it will invest $120-million to build a new brewery in Port Elizabeth. The brewery is due for completion by the end of next year and will replace an existing 100-year-old brewery. “This investment confirms SAB’s commitment to South Africa’s economic development,” said Norman Adami, managing director of Beer South Africa, SAB’s brewing operation. SAB said the brewery, which will have a production capacity of 2,3-million hectolitres a year, will help support the growing national demand for SAB’s brands, particularly in the Eastern and Southern Cape. The investment is on top of the company’s current annual capital expenditure on its beer interests in South Africa of almost $100-million.
